Kusan Mexican Production

When Kusan U.S. production ended in 1960, the Alco and small car molds had already been outsourced to Plasticos Leon in Mexico. Also included were the scale boxcar and stock car molds. The trains were produced in Mexico four years, with remaining stock sold there until 1968. Production estimates vary widely, from 300 to 500 train sets annually, up to 10,000 sets per year. Approximately 20 different road names were used on the locomotives and cars in the sets. Mexican production ended when a Sears contract for the holidays fell through after several hundred Sears boxcars, in special green boxes, had already been produced.
