Williams Electric Trains Industrial Switchers
Williams utilized former Kusan tooling to produce these four-wheel Industrial Switchers, also known as Mighty Mites. A tuscan brown Pennsylvania switcher was also made (photo requested). The locomotive motors run on three-rail direct current (DC) instead of alternating current (AC). A DC power pack with an output from zero to 17 volts can be used to provide power. Williams included a diode rectifier with these engines. When installed, the rectifier enables the switcher to operate with a three-rail AC toy train transformer. However, use of the rectifier causes the motor to run in one direction only. See this page for a look inside the switchers. Photos courtesy of the B. DeBrooke collection.
